Air Asia resumes direct flights to Dhaka route

Air Asia resumed direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka on July 10, tapping into the vast market of the country.With 130 passengers, flight AK70 left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to Kuala Lumpur at 12.25 am. Norlin Binti Othman, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, was present to formally inaugurate the first flight. At the opening ceremony, the Malaysian High Commissioner said connectivity between the two countries will further increase with the reintroduction of Air Asia flight. She said passengers would be able to travel with the airline, and ordinary passengers will be encouraged to travel more.”

KM Mozibul Hoque, Chairman, Total Air services Limited (TAS) said, “We are seriously considering ways to provide services of a regular carrier, though we are a budget airline.” TAS is the General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh of the airline.

He said the airline will fly from Dhaka at 12:25 am and will arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 6:25am while it will leave for Dhaka at 21:55pm local time and reach the destination at 23:45pm.

He informed passengers will have baggage allowance of 30kgs each and will be provided with food during the flight, free of charge.

The Dhaka-Kuala Lumpur ticket fare has been set at Tk 22,499, including all taxes. The offer is applicable only for online booking, according to sources. The airline tickets will be up for sale at five outlets: Banani, Dhanmondi, Motijheel, Gulshan and Uttara. The Air Asia group operates scheduled domestic and international flights to 129 destinations. Earlier, Air Asia started its operation in Bangladesh in April 2010 and suspended it in June 2011.
